FAQs and reasons to submit
Why submit an article to the Journal of Sustainable Urban Mobility - Josum?
Josum works with Open Access and represents an immediate opportunity to share primary investigation data and negative and positive research results. All focused exclusively on the theme of urban mobility.
What is Open Access (OA)?
We are fully committed to open research and the benefits that Open Access (OA) can bring to the scientific field. Under the OA model, an article must be immediately available to anyone worldwide as soon as it is published, free of charge, rather than just for readers or institutions. Articles published on Josum are made available under a Creative Commons license, which allows anyone to reuse, share, or build on the work. Open Access content, and open data, accelerate the progress of science and are more shared as they do not offer barriers to access.
Why publish in Josum if it is a new periodical?
Josum is the only Brazilian scientific journal focused exclusively on urban mobility. Urban mobility research has not been published due to the lack of an excellent scientific journal or the lack of events and congresses in this area of study. We want Josum to be the place of publication of this dammed knowledge, and we intend to be the leading scientific journal with an impact factor in the area.
What are Josum's indexers?
We are associated with the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors. We have the ISSN and DOI for all publications. As we publish, we can be indexed in the various knowledge platforms. Indexing is time-dependent. The more we publish, the more chances we have of increasing our indexes. We aim to print up to 200 articles in the next three years. Josum has indexations such as Aura, General Impact Factor, Diadorim, Latindex, Google Scholar, Sumarios, ResearchBib, EuroPub e a Eurasian Scientific Journal Index.
What is Josum 's Qualis Capes?
Qualis Capes is an evaluation system of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), which ranks the scientific production of Brazilian graduate programs. This classification emerged in the late 1990s, and the so-called “Qualis Periódicos”, which deals exclusively with the category of scientific journals, appeared in 1998. It classifies the quality of articles and scientific journals. The classification is made available to all who wish to know the journals. For the journal to appear on the list, the researchers need to have published it. Based on other criteria such as periodicity, peer review, blind evaluation, and quality of the editorial board, among others, journals receive indicators ranging from A1 — highest — passing through A2, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, up to the C indicator — with zero weight. Every three years, this classification should be updated, indicating the evolution of the journals. Still, in addition to the delay, a series of events, including a court decision, prevented this index from being updated. Thus, the current Qualis Capes is the result of the last update of evaluations and classifications made in 2008. Josum hopes that as soon as the publications happen, they will be included in Capes indicators. At the moment, this has not yet happened. But in addition to Qualis Capes, a Brazilian index, our editorial team has the ambition to transform Josum into a journal with a high impact factor.
What is the impact factor?
The impact factor is a bibliometric method that assesses the importance of scientific journals in their respective areas of knowledge. It is a metric that reflects the average number of citations of scientific articles published in a given journal. So, to become a journal with a high impact factor, Josum needs to have several people publishing on its platform and also being cited by others.
What is the evaluation and publication deadline?
Unlike most scientific publications, the deadlines between submission, evaluation, and publication last an average of 70 days within the continuous flow and strictly respect the deadlines established by the guest editors in the case of "thematic dossiers".
Why do I need to pay to publish on Josum?
Articles published on Josum are freely and universally available. Josum works with a charge per article approved for publication. In Open Science, this procedure is known as Article Processing Charges (APC). The publication fee is charged to promote, produce, and maintain the journal. After the review process, this fee will be paid when the article is accepted for publication. There is no charge at the time of article submission or during its analysis. The journal does not have any aid, funding, or official subsidy. Therefore the APC is charged. It is worth mentioning that there are two types of publication in Josum, one in continuous flow and the other in thematic dossiers organized by invited editors. In this second modality, there is no charge for the APC. Still, the articles must be adequate to the dossier proposal and will also be submitted for peer review.
Who will evaluate my work?
Your work will be evaluated by people with a minimum master's degree. They are specialists in urban mobility and related areas from various scientific communities in Brazil and other countries. We made a public call for referees' registration. There, interested people show their areas of interest, preferred language of evaluation, and reasons for being a referee in scientific journals. After an assessment and proof of qualification, the people registered in the register can integrate into the team of reviewers.
Can I submit pre-printed works already published to Josum?
Not. Your contribution must be original and unpublished and not be evaluated for publication by another journal. The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Guidelines for Authors.
